 Instead of paying a pretty penny for memberships, look for free options. Consider the high cost of a kids' gym membership versus the full spectrum experience of a free playground. You can purchase books and storytelling devices or you can go to library story times. The YMCA may not be free but it's a much better price than most local for-profit gyms, especially at family rates. If there is a charge to enter, consider if there is an alternative.
