Walk short distances instead of driving.

This is great for your health plus great for your gas tank and car's health. Stop and write down a list of places you could walk to from your home. Tape the list near your door to jog your brain when you are grabbing your keys to head out. When you are in one location, walk to the next location if it's nearby, too.

Clean or Replace HVAC Filters

Clean or replace HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) filters regularly. Now this is a multi-topic concept: energy, materials, environment, and health. Most houses have central heating and air now days - I know - not all. Even if you are renting you are affected by your system. Anyone who pays for the electricity used by a heating/cooling system should be aware of their filter. If your filter gets full of muck - you will start paying more and getting a less healthy result as well.

Open windows for circulation.

By opening windows on two sides of your house you can create a breeze through your home to change the temperature and to circulate the air helping to avoid stagnation and mold growth. Opening your windows in the early morning can be a real tool before the temperature gets too warm allowing a cool breeze to waft your home.

Shop around for insurance

If you know the level of insurance you need, now is the time to shop around to get a true and complete comparison between insurance companies. Make sure you understand the features you must have, the levels of coverage, and be sure that each company is presenting you with an exact quote of what you want. Liability vs. Comprehensive. Medical limits. Towing. Be sure to mention the same features of your vehicles. Be sure to mention all affiliations to get the same rewards as available to have a true comparison across companies.

Discount vision prescriptions.

Get your glasses and contact prescriptions filled somewhere other than the optometrist's office. 1800Contacts has some nice prices on contacts. Zenni Optical has amazing prices on glasses.  Compare the prices to your optometrist, too. It's always good to price check your options.

Exercise more.

This works for your budget in several ways. 1. Stay healthy and save medical expenses. 2. Use this time to replace more expensive pastimes. 3. Improve your self esteem to help you feel better about yourself and your goals. 4. Creates additional interesting goals to distract from the norms of society. (Get the new game system vs. Train for a marathon)

Reduce stress.

If the obligations of your life are stressing you out, get a handle on them or get rid of them completely. Do you need to be the neighborhood organization president? If you NEED to be can you give some of the responsibilities away? By having less stress in your life you can think more clearly about what is important to you. While thinking clearly it is much easier to stick to your goals on a daily basis.

Stop smoking/drinking/any expensive habit (Better yet - never start).

A little can go a long way so if you NEED something - use moderation. If you're at the beginning of life, just don't pick up these habits in the first place. The cost of medications to stop quickly pay for themselves in most cases.

Good Dental Habits

Dental care. Brush and floss regularly. Have regular checkups and cleanings as well to avoid additional services to be required.

Stay home/isolated during cough and cold seasons.

This may sound like no fun but neither is the flu. Stay home, avoid crowds, wash hands, use sanitizer, and do everything you can throughout the season of yuck to not be sucked into it.

Keep yourself healthy to avoid healthcare costs.
