Don't walk out of your house without a bottle of water and a snack.

Walking out of your house may be the first step of a well-planned outing, but so often the world has other plans for you. Walk out carrying water so that you can be sure to not get thirsty. Dehydration can cause distraction and poor decision making. Having water handy can help avoid this. Having the bottle may also give you an ability to better appreciate a water fountain. A small snack (a mock lunchable, a pb&j sandwich, protein bar...) can be an amazing asset when the world steers your plan out of whack. It can also give you the power to be able to adjust your own plan and make better decisions.
