Be very cognizant of what vegetables your family actually eats. Don't try too
hard to make a massive garden because you think you should. Take a gander at
your shopping list and menus from the last few weeks to identify 1 or 2 major
produce items throughout the lists. Do a little research and consider planting
just a few pots of vegetables. If you enjoy zucchini, that's an easy-to-grow plant
that makes lots of produce. Lettuce typically can be grown pretty easily as
well. Tomatoes are an over producer where you often
have more than you can give away. Cucumbers are another
possibility and can be pickled if they produce more than you can use right
away.
