The concept is phantom power
consumers. When your charger is done charging your phone, it still eats the
power it consumed when it was actively charging your phone. The "old
stuff" that has nothing digitally displaying often has little phantom power
consumed because it did nothing in standby. It's usage of power, though, was
less efficient. Now the newest stuff is being designed to consume less while in
standby because we've gotten smarter. The real issue is the in between devices
that came after the old stuff but before the newer designs. These began
implementing stand by options before we were fully aware of the cost those
options would have.
